Giving to the Bodleian Libraries

The Bodleian Libraries of the University of Oxford form the largest university library system in the United Kingdom. They include the principal University library — the Bodleian Library — which has been a library of legal deposit for 400 years; major research libraries; and libraries attached to faculties, departments and other institutions of the University. The combined library collections number more than 11 million printed items, in addition to 30,000 e-journals, and vast quantities of materials in other formats.

These great intellectual and historical riches are not reserved only for the students and academics of the University. The Libraries' doors open to thousands of visiting researchers every year, its website enables instant access to many of its collections by anyone, anywhere in the world, at any time, while a busy, expanding programme of acclaimed exhibitions and cultural events ensures the Bodleian’s rich treasures are as accessible as possible to members of the public.

The New Bodleian Library, right at the heart of the University, will soon be transformed into a state-of-the-art resource for special collections, including a conservation centre, exhibition gallery, reading rooms and other research facilities, seminar rooms, café, and environmentally appropriate collection storage.
Help to ensure that documents in all manifestations, whether print or digital, receive the care that allows their continued use in the next millennium.
Help the Libraries continue to do all we can to make publicly accessible the rich treasures of the Libraries to a wider, non-specialist audience.
Help to improve the Bodleian for all our readers, by investing in longer opening hours, increasing online provision, and new and improved libraries facilities.
