Professor of Astrophysics, Department of Physics and St Peter's College
Steve Rawlings was a tutor in Physics at St Peter's College and a researcher in the Department of Physics at the University of Oxford, who passed away in January 2012. He was a much loved colleague, a creative scientist, and a person of kindness, generosity and integrity. Not only was he a brilliant scientist, advancing the frontiers of cosmology and paving the way for the international Square Kilometre Array, but he was also a man of immense fun; many former students and colleagues around the world will recall playing football or cricket with him.
As well as being a much-admired college tutor, Steve was an inspirational mentor of graduate students. His colleagues and family wish to honour his memory and rich life by establishing the Steve Rawlings Memorial Fund to benefit Astrophysics graduate students at the University of Oxford by giving them opportunities to travel to international conferences or gain hands-on experience at an observatory. They invite everyone whose life was touched by Steve Rawlings to contribute to a cause to which he was devoted during his career.
